This is a picture of the collection point for these stories. Artist Micheal Barnes contributed the sculpture of a drunk to help draw attention to the request for stories. Thank you Micheal.

I would love to say that this is a well organized project and has deep meaning throughout the daily lives of young adults except for the fact that this project is a product of someone elses original thought. I happen to know the person who had this story in thier diary and is about someone I know and this project was stolen by Todd Drake to use as his own "idea".
Your comment does not make sense. Please explain. Are you talking about a specific story within the project or the whole project? I have not stolen anything in the way of specific stories- they were all donated to me as resource materials. The overall concept did not come from a specific source but rather emerged from my observations of many students struggling with drug and alcohol abuse. I do not steal specific ideas from students. In fact, I have invited all my students to participate in this project way before it began. This whole approach is about "open source" , collaboration, and sharing. Your comments seem to come from the opposite direction. If you or someone else feels infringed upon please contact me directly, I will be happy to discuss your concerns.
The SubReflux Project is my newest community collaborative art project, the goal of which is to give a voice to those who have experienced the effects of drug and alcohol abuse in their lives. The primary source community is Rockingham County, North Carolina, USA. This community is NOT unique and was chosen only because of its proximity to my work.
The title for this project, SubReflux, comes from the observation that these experiences exist below the surface, not really coming into the daylight of our everyday exchanges but effecting those who live then in profound, sea changing, often detrimental ways. Reflux means an outflowing. The response to my request for stories had been just that- an outflowing. Thank you to all who donated.
After collecting donated stories submitted in a box in the hallway of my work, I will now create a painting whose content is directed by this material. Further donations will be accepted from Rockingham County residents.
The final art work and the source material will be exhibited. A workshop on surviving drug and alcohol abuse will be held in the community. A portion of any profit from the sale of this work will be donated to drug and alcohol abuse counseling services in Rockingham County. I am also inviting other artists to participate in making similarly themed art.
